Founded by Ali McKelvey, the organization upcycles ocean-bound plastic into pieces of jewelry. Here’s how the process works:
PurelyBlu invites everyone who loves the ocean to have a hand in saving it.
About PurelyBlu
Ali McKelvey founded PurelyBlu in 2020, a jewelry brand dedicated to saving the ocean with style and honesty. Ali enjoys blogging about her experiences in ocean preservation and showing people different ways to drive change in our marine crises.
McKelvey, a freshman at Southern Methodist University in Texas, has been in love with the ocean her whole life and was driven to start PurelyBlu when she saw the negative impact plastics have on our oceans and marine life. Ali is an advanced certified scuba diver with specialties of diving for debris and coral restoration.
McKelvey partnered with #tide ocean material, their primary ocean cleanup and manufacturing partner. Along with other social enterprises, the company collects ocean-bound plastic in Southeast Asia. From there, the material is registered, washed, shredded, then upcycled into jewelry.
PurelyBlu donates 50% of its profits to Project Aware, a global movement for ocean protection powered by a community of adventurers. For the past 25 years, the non-profit has created programs and policies to safeguard marine life and communities impacted by ocean pollution. Everything they do is grounded in science and research – resulting in real progress to make oceans clean and healthy again.
Purely Blu & MITA have a shared mission: to leave the Earth better than we found it!
